DIY Juniper Berry Lotion Bars

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Do you ever feel like you have too much stress and want to detox, but don’t know how? dōTERRA’s Juniper Berry essential oil has a woody, spicy, yet fresh aroma that creates a calming and grounding effect. You can add one to two drops to water or citrus drinks as part of a natural cleansing regimen. If I’m ever feeling like I need to support my urinary tract, bladder or kidneys,  Juniper Berry is my go to oil. A few drops rubbed on my lower abdomen does the trick. I repeat a couple times a day until I feel I’ve gotten the relief I wanted.

This unique oil is also great when diffused with citrus oils to lessen stress. It is also a natural skin toner and can help reduce the appearance of blemishes, promoting a clear and healthy complexion.

Bergamot and Juniper Berry Lotion Bars

Makes 4-6 bars

Ingredients:

1 cup beeswax

1 cup coconut oil

1 cup shea butter

10–15 drops Bergamot essential oi

10–15 drops Juniper Berry essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Combine and melt (microwave or double boiler) beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter.
  2. Mix ingredients together.
  3. Add Bergamot and Juniper Berry essential oils.*
  4. Pour or spoon into mold of choice.

Tips:

 *Any of the essential oils in this recipe can be switched out for essential oils of your choosing.

5 ways to make sure you get some exercise in during the summer

 

 

 

 

 

 

“It’s hot here. Like about 110 today. Dang. I know I still need to exercise but I’m really not wanting to go to the gym.” Have any of you ever had those kind of thoughts? I live in Southern Utah and we get really hot summers. Lately I’ve been going to the gym with my daughter and son in law but when the weather warms up I want to shake things up a bit. I want to be outside. Now I know you are thinking “But it’s hot out there!” You are right. However, the outdoors calls me and I must answer. Nature has a way of making us happy. I like happy.

So, what are some ways we can still exercise in the summer and yet not get too overheated and still get those work-outs in?

1. How about playing baseball in the lake?  As you can see in the picture, we had a blast! It was impromptu but it worked. I even got in the game. The bat – it was plastic. Same with the ball. Notice the two people on paddle boards? They were the outfield and they had to retrieve the ball. No one really ran bases but we had a great time and stayed cool even though the sun was beating down on us. I think it counted as exercise. Don’t you?

2. Get out early (or later) in the day. Enjoy a sunrise or sunset while taking a walk. You can even run if that’s what makes you happy. Try different routes. How about getting in your car and driving somewhere new? Take in the scenery of this time of year but be sure and stay hydrated. You might even want to bring a spritz bottle with water and a couple of drops of doTERRA’s Peppermint essential oil. Spritz yourself (not in your eyes) when you are feeling warm.

3. How about a bike ride? Ride to the park and then swing on the swings for a few. It makes me feel like a kid again. Do you remember trying to see how high you could swing? The slight breeze created when you swing might even cool you down a bit.

4. How about starting a Tai Chi group? Gather some friends, go to someone’s back yard, bring your tablet and find a YouTube channel with a Tai Chi workout.

5. Lastly…how about going swimming? We have a pool in our backyard and I’m in there for a few moments almost every day. This may mean my hair isn’t quite looking like I just came from the beauty parlor, but who cares? It feels good! If you don’t have a pool, or a friend with a pool, check out your community rec center. Most offer water aerobics. Some year round. If they don’t have classes, go swim some laps or even walk the lazy river if there’s one.

Your body will thank you for getting outside and doing something to get it moving. You might even be in a better mood. Exercising outdoors can stimulate endorphins and serotonin which help us feel good. Remember to drink water and to make sure you don’t overdo it. How about a cool cloth soaked in some cool water to wrap around your neck? Enjoy your summer ~ it’ll be gone before you know it!
