Elephants, Chakras and Silence

I love this picture! That’s probably because I love elephants, studying about the Chakras, essential oils and LOTS of color.

Lately I’ve been feeling like I have more that I need to share. There are people out there that are searching for “something” and sometimes they don’t even know what that “something” is. Maybe they are just feeling a little out of sync. Not quite connected with who they are and their purpose. Do you ever have days, weeks, or months like that? Maybe it’s even years of feeling like “something” is just missing in your life. I’m suggesting that you honor that and move in a direction that will help you feel joy, inspiration and fulfillment. There are people out there that may need to hear from you. If we stay in our shell, then how can we share the light and gifts that we’ve been given? I believe we all have a sacred duty to fulfill our purpose on this earth and first of all we need to find out what that purpose it. That may take time and maybe we just need to settle in and be still. Listen to that inner voice. Overtime you will be directed to what it is you are supposed to do.

When you think about the word Meditation, does that sound to you like “What??? I need to sit still for 5, 10, or even 20 minutes? Life is just too busy for that! Too many places to be, too many people to see, just too much to do!” Or is more of a peaceful presence that resonates with you. If the later is not the case, I would suggest searching online for a simple meditation practice that might fit into your life. What have you got to loose? Some people prefer a guided meditation. Others prefer silence or the repetition of a sound or mantra.

Do you trust that you will provided what you need? Think about taking a few moments to just sit and be still. Breathe. Inhale, pause, exhale. Repeat. Trust that with silence your mind may be open to hear what it is that you need today. Maybe you need to serve someone else. Could even be a family member. But how will you know if you don’t stop and take the time to listen? Once this becomes a routine, your mind, body and soul will thank you.

Let me close by suggesting a few essential oils that you may want to include in your meditation, or stillness, practice. Place a drop or two over the corresponding area or putting a few drops in the palm of your hand, rubbing together and breathe in.

Namaste.

5 ways to make sure you get some exercise in during the summer

“It’s hot here. Like about 110 today. Dang. I know I still need to exercise but I’m really not wanting to go to the gym.” Have any of you ever had those kind of thoughts? I live in Southern Utah and we get really hot summers. Lately I’ve been going to the gym with my daughter and son in law but when the weather warms up I want to shake things up a bit. I want to be outside. Now I know you are thinking “But it’s hot out there!” You are right. However, the outdoors calls me and I must answer. Nature has a way of making us happy. I like happy.

So, what are some ways we can still exercise in the summer and yet not get too overheated and still get those work-outs in?

1. How about playing baseball in the lake?  As you can see in the picture, we had a blast! It was impromptu but it worked. I even got in the game. The bat – it was plastic. Same with the ball. Notice the two people on paddle boards? They were the outfield and they had to retrieve the ball. No one really ran bases but we had a great time and stayed cool even though the sun was beating down on us. I think it counted as exercise. Don’t you?

2. Get out early (or later) in the day. Enjoy a sunrise or sunset while taking a walk. You can even run if that’s what makes you happy. Try different routes. How about getting in your car and driving somewhere new? Take in the scenery of this time of year but be sure and stay hydrated. You might even want to bring a spritz bottle with water and a couple of drops of doTERRA’s Peppermint essential oil. Spritz yourself (not in your eyes) when you are feeling warm.

3. How about a bike ride? Ride to the park and then swing on the swings for a few. It makes me feel like a kid again. Do you remember trying to see how high you could swing? The slight breeze created when you swing might even cool you down a bit.

4. How about starting a Tai Chi group? Gather some friends, go to someone’s back yard, bring your tablet and find a YouTube channel with a Tai Chi workout.

5. Lastly…how about going swimming? We have a pool in our backyard and I’m in there for a few moments almost every day. This may mean my hair isn’t quite looking like I just came from the beauty parlor, but who cares? It feels good! If you don’t have a pool, or a friend with a pool, check out your community rec center. Most offer water aerobics. Some year round. If they don’t have classes, go swim some laps or even walk the lazy river if there’s one.

Your body will thank you for getting outside and doing something to get it moving. You might even be in a better mood. Exercising outdoors can stimulate endorphins and serotonin which help us feel good. Remember to drink water and to make sure you don’t overdo it. How about a cool cloth soaked in some cool water to wrap around your neck? Enjoy your summer ~ it’ll be gone before you know it!

Morning Rituals – what are they really about?

Do you have a morning ritual?  I read a great article today titled  “7 Morning Rituals to Make your Day 8 Times More Productive.”

Right off the bat I liked the article because it quoted one of my favorite authors. The quote was “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. ” — John C. Maxwell.

This article had some great ideas – some of which I’ve incorporated and some of which I’m still working on. For instance, I’m getting better at meditation and listening to affirmations.  Someone recently told me about an app called “ThinkUp.” It allows you to record affirmations in your own voice with background music.  It’s supposed to be more effective when we hear our own voice. They even suggest affirmations and then you can just choose the ones you like (or make up your own) and read them while you are recording. Simple and easy. I like that.

I’m also getting better at meditating. I understand now it doesn’t have to be a long process. It doesn’t even have to be at the same place and at the same time each day. But since we are talking about “Morning Rituals” here, meditating is a terrific way to begin your day.  There are so many benefits. If you are one that needs the science behind what makes it work, plenty can be found. The point is ~ just do it!

Exercise. We all know it’s good for us. We just need to do it. Even 10 minutes will benefit you. Walk, run, swim, go to the gym, dance in your living room. It doesn’t matter ~ just do something to get yourself moving. If you can incorporate it into your morning ritual, that much better!

Gratitude. I loved the idea in the above article that suggests we take a few moments to acknowledge some positive things that have happened to us. This doesn’t have to be a long list. Just two or three will do. However, if you are like me, once I begin, the list just seems to grow. Sometimes at night if I have a hard time falling asleep, instead of counting sheep, I will count my many blessings! There’s never a right or wrong time to be grateful.

So, what are morning rituals really about? And why do they matter? It’s about what works for you. I’ve given you some suggestions but you get to choose. Do what makes you happy. Once you begin you will see that they’ll make a difference in your day. When you begin to practice a regular morning ritual, you will then not only make a difference in one day, but you’ll begin to make a difference in your week, then your month, and before you know it your year! You deserve  it. Here’s to having the best year ever!

Bugs away!!!

Looking forward to some time outdoors? I love to go hiking, camping, swimming, walking on the beach, you name it. Someone once told me I run on solar power. I think she’s right on!  Because we are outdoors a lot during this time of year, we are often reaching for something to keep the bugs away.  I try to be educated on the products our family uses because I know so many products include toxins that are scary and can really prove to be dangerous.

TerraShield is one of my family’s favorite blends for the summer. Because we do spend a lot of time outside, this is the magic that wards off any insects that want to join our summer festivities. This oil is safe for everyone in your family and can even help your garden flourish by giving it a protective barrier. TerraShield has recently been updated to include Tamanu oil which not only provides extra benefits for your use but is positively impacting families in Madagascar through dōTERRA’s Cō-Impact Sourcing. This blend can be diffused (I would suggest the 15ml bottle)  or applied topically (using the TerraShield Spray) to provide a defense against the annoyances of outdoor activities. Organic Gardening

As we all know, spring is the season for gardening. If you’re like me and thought that gardening was just putting seeds in the ground, you may have discovered that it seems there is much more to it than just having good dirt and water to grow your plants. dōTERRA has 8 Tips for Starting Your Own Organic Garden that make the process more user friendly for those who have yet to develop the green thumb. I love some of the ideas in this article!

Having lived in different areas of my state, we’ve learned each area is different and sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming. Like the article suggests, look for someone in your area who has a successful garden and ask them what they’re doing. I’m sure they’d love to share some of their ideas and be flattered that you even noticed! https://doterra.com/…/brochures-magazines-doterra-living-sp…

What tips and tricks have you discovered that made your garden flourish?

Balance in Life

I was on a walk today with my dog, Lucky. It’s nice the weather is warmer and I get to do this again. As I was walking I got to thinking…how much balance do I have in my life? Some time ago I realized that I hadn’t allowed myself to be balanced. Our tagline for Blogging Barefoot is BALANCE ~ WELLNESS ~ ESSENTIAL OILS. Balance is a key part of that and I was singing to the choir yet not practicing what I preached! I love what I do for my “work.” I love sharing about essential oils. I also love teaching and training people on how to grow a successful business with these wonderful products. Yet, somehow, I had let my work get ahold of me and take all my time.

I think part of it comes from the accessibility of social media and how easy it is to get caught up on our computers, tablets, cell phones or whatever. My life had become all about my work and I didn’t take time for anything else. I realized I needed some more “me” time. So then I found a new hobby ~ photography. I really enjoy taking photos and love the instant gratification I get when I take what I think is a great photo.  I can see it right before my eyes and get instant gratification. Isn’t that what our society is all about now? Hate to say it, but I think so.

I loved getting away with my camera and then that’s all I wanted to do! I wanted to play, have fun, not be behind my computer or on the phone all day. Where was the balance in that? Over time it became clear to me that there wasn’t any. I’d found something I loved to do but yet I still needed and wanted to support those I was working with. How do we make this all happen?

Enter Balance! Yes, the oil helps. I love to diffuse it. I love to put a couple of drops in the palms of my hand, rub them together and inhale. I love to rub the oil on the bottoms of my feet. Really rub it in. It works better that way! But there’s more to it than just using an essential oil.

Make a conscious decision to have balance in your life. You don’t want to become overwhelmed, stressed or unhappy. Take time for the things you love and enjoy. If you don’t take some time now, you may miss out. Your body will let you know you need some balance if you don’t listen.  I choose to take some needed time to play and have fun. Had I done this earlier, I would’ve had a lot more enjoyable days and a lot less stress. You are worth it! Now go out, have some fun and remember to have Balance! You deserve it.

Switch up your mood by diffusing essential oils!

Diffusing essential oils can be very beneficial in our homes, work spaces and other areas where we spend a good deal of time. They are known to clean our air, effect our emotions and can even boost our immune system. Depending on the mood you are looking for can help you decide what essential oil to diffuse. I work from home and sometimes I need a pick me up so I will grab a citrus oil like Grapefruit, Lemon, Tangerine or even a mixture of several oils. Some of my favorite blends to diffuse are dōTERRA’s Citrus Bliss or Motivate.

At night I choose something more calming like dōTERRA’s Serenity. My husband loves to diffuse Cedarwood and Lavender together.  He will put a couple of drops of each on the bottoms of his feet, get the diffuser going and he’s down for the count! It’s so wonderful that on those nights when it seems our minds just won’t shut off that we have a natural solution. No running to the store for us to get something to help.

Make sure that you choose quality essential oils so that you are not releasing toxins into your environment. For years people have used scented candles, aerosols and now plug-in air fresheners to make their homes smell better. The trouble with these lies in the fragrances and materials used.  To find out more about the possible hazards of using synthetic air freshners in our homes, check out this article published in 2014:  https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/could-using-air-fresheners-during-pregnancy-boost-childhood-asthma-risk/

How to Brand Yourself for Life

How to Brand Yourself for Life

Recently I attended a class where we talked about “Branding Ourselves”.  For most of us this was about  finding  a way to let people know how they could benefit by working with us.  I work with a lot of people and I feel it’s important for a person on my team to know what they can count on from me.  But I’ve been thinking about this more and more.  I think it’s also important for people to know how they can count on you to show up in life.

I think most of us “Brand” ourselves whether we realize it or not.  Who do we want to show up as?   We may have many different roles and they often come together to make us who we are.  Mother, father, employee, spouse, child, educator, lover, etc.  Maybe we like some roles better than others. But our roles are only part of the equation.

How do you want people to know you?  Take a moment to write down some of your strengths.  It may help to think about how people would describe you or what you are passionate about.  How do these strengths help those around you? If you are compassionate, how does that help those you come in contact with?  What if you are a peacemaker or a musician? Take some time.  Contemplate.  Be gentle with yourself and know that you can do what no one else can.  You are a combination of wonderful attributes that come together to form a unique you.  Treasure and love who you are ~ then go share with the world!

5 Reasons to Take a Walk

5 Reasons to Take a Walk

Where do you like to walk? Sometimes I just take a walk around my neighborhood, but when I’m traveling I like to find new places to walk.  This picture was taken last year as I was visiting my sister in South Pasadena.  The South Pasadena Children’s Memorial & Healing Garden is a place that people can come and reflect.  It’s peaceful.  Even though I’d visited South Pasadena many times over the years, I would’ve never known about this garden unless I went on a walk.  I love the trees, the colored benches, and the quiet.  There is a special spirit there.

So, what are 5 reasons we should take a walk?  How about the following:

1.  You can experience new places and/or people.

2.  You get moving, if even for a few moments.

3.  It gives us time to clear our heads.

4.  It can get us out in nature.

5.  You are doing something good for you.

If you haven’t taken a walk lately, try it.  Where I live it’s getting a bit warmer, but I know for a lot of you it’s still cold. That’s OK – find somewhere inside to walk.  There’s always the mall, but how about a Museum or a community center?

To me there is no “right” or “wrong” way to walk. Sometimes I like to walk alone and sometimes I like to have a walking buddy.   There are days that I will walk for just a few moments and other days that I’ll go on more of an adventure. The times in my life when I’ve been consistent in walking have been so beneficial.  I feel so much better physically, emotionally, and spiritually.  Walking has been associated with improved mental health, increased energy, lower stress levels, and even better sleep.  Those are things I believe we can all use!

Enjoy the days when you can walk. On the days that you can’t, be grateful for your ability to do so.
